Celebrating the inner fire

Simple dances from Greece , the Balkans and the Near East encourage us to feel the

“inner fire” of life energy embodied in the ancient dance patterns. This energy has always been considered sacred, connecting us with

the rhythms of nature and particularly with

the Midsummer fire. The joy of the dance serves as a force of transformation, to release what we no longer need and bring the flowing life force into our bodies, our dancing circle and into our lives.

Laura Shannon, trained in Intercultural Studies (1986) and Dance Movement Therapy (1990), has been researching traditional ritual dances for more than twenty years. Her unique approach is to honour the dances in all their authenticity, and sees them as valuable tools which serve our healing and personal development. One of the best-loved circle dance teachers, Laura brings her inspiring workshops all over the world. She has come many times to Sweden .

Kostantis Kourmadias is a master of the violin and of the saz (aka tamburás), the ancient Byzantine long-necked lute which is the original sound of Greek music, though only rarely heard in Greece today. He has dedicated his life to preserving the traditional music of the Greek islands and of Asia Minor , his ancestral homeland. Accompanying Laura in her workshops throughout Europe, Kostantis also plays the music of neighbouring countries in the Balkans, Turkey and Armenia , honouring a common humanity undiminished by cultural, geographical, linguistic, or religious differences.

Kicky Anderberg is a musician from Sweden , playing saz and guitar. She is a student of Kostantis and Laura in traditional music
